Sin City opening sequence analysis

All the names in the opening sequence is in red this is to represent blood this shows you what type of film it is going to be.
The music in which is in the opening sequence is uncomfortable and also makes your heart beat to the same beat/pass as the music, this then means that when the music gets louder or faster it makes you more nervous than it usually would.
Within the names of the actors/actresses in which go across the screen when the character is shown has gaps within these represent gun shot's in which have been shot at them, this also helps to show you what type of film it is going to be.
The title sequence is made to look like it is a graphics novel as this is what the film is based on.

Shots that are within the opening sequence in order of when they are shown
  • Women with back to camera
  • Women throwing something but we don't know what
  • Women being shot by mysterious person
  • Guy smoking in what looked like a office, guy blacked out to make him look mysterious
  • Women shooting a gun
  • Guy with what looks like a gun in his head
  • Guy with a problem with his eye looks like it has been shot at
  • Women hiding a gun
  • Guy smoking
  • Guy looking angry
  • Mystery women can only see from the bottom of her nose to mid chest
  • Guy pointing gun at floor
  • Women stabbing someone
  • Mystery guy only in half view as other half of his body is blacked out
  • Guy with gun
  • Guy shooting a women
  • Guy holding what looks like a large knife
  • Mystery guy
These shots in the title sequence are of people getting threatened this gives you the idea that this is going to happen in the film.

It also shows mystery people this makes you want to know who they are and what they have got to do with the threats. You also see people that are supposed to look like they have nothing to do with whats going on but they are the ones hiding the evidence.

Flowers in the Attic opening sequence analysis

In the opening sequence of flowers in the attack there is details about the film such as the fact that she says that this is how she remembered the house she also says that it was her grandmother's house this give you the idea that something must have happened for them to now have to live with her. Within the first few seconds of the opening sequence you now that the film is set in the past and you now that the film is all going to be from the girls point of view as she is the one talking. You also now that she lose her innocence but done know why this is a good aspect of a thriller as it keeps you interested and watching. After you have listened to the what the girl is saying it then takes you though a Attic this then makes you wounder what is going on more and makes you guess more as there is items in which are shown within the Attic these are -
  • Helmet
  • Blow up bed this makes you think someone lived up there
  • Cage
  • Books
  • Paper flower shown to be important as it was shown for the longest period of time
  • Letters
  • picture of a man + women + 4 children this then fades into a clearer coloured scene where the girl starts to talk again.
The last part of the opening sequence ends with the girl saying that her parents where the centre of her universe when she was young this then keeps you guessing as you don't know why they are not now and you want to keep watching so that you can find out.
the music in which is played throughout the opening sequence is quite high pitched this therefore makes you uncomfortable as the pitch is too high.

recce shots

We desided that this location was too simple and did not have the feel and atmosphere in which we needed for the thriller in which we are doing.

This we though was going to be a good scene to use but when we piloted it we though that it was more horror than it was thriller we thought this as we decided in our grounp that we were going to film the thriller at dust so therefore that added too much to the location and made it too horror.

This location was too near to the road for the part thet we wanted to use it for, there was also to many houses around so it would have made it hard to film it without getting the houses in the footage.

We desided on these two locations as they are perfect for the scenes that wehave storyboarded, we also thought that it had the right atmosphere for the thriller so that is why we desided to use these two for the main locations.

Minutes for thriller opening sequence (5th january)

Me, Jasmine and Sophie dissued ideas on where our thriller opening sequence should be set. We came up with the idea of using the mill woods as the main setting for our thriller opening sequence. But will also use the roads serounding it. we will shoot all of our footage in mid darkness as this will give the right atmosphere for a thriller. we disscussed the scenes in which should  be put into the opening sequence and came up with a variety of ideas one of the main ideas was that there will be scratches in a tree we also came up with the idea of using an old railway track and putting red paint across in as if to look like someone has been dragged across them. We are also doing shots in which will be of a dark shadow so that it keeps you guessing. We also desided that the best way in which to film it is to have the camera as if it is whatg the person is viewing. We also discussed ideas about the sound in which should go in we desided the best thing would be screams and heavy breathing these will be added in the editing process.

6th january
We created our story board.
